On Water Ecology Kayak Paddles Introduction including environmental history of the local waterways history, collection of specimens using plankton nets and post-paddle microscope views and identification of what the group collected.

  • Discovering Bushwick Inlet A focus on the marine life, including oysters, and bird wildlife found in Bushwick Inlet.

  • Exploring Newtown Creek A focus on the environmental downfall and modern day challenges and reclamation efforts.

Nautical Knowledge Classes 1 - 2.5 hours, depending on the subject Each class includes a slide presentation and a pdf handout.

  • Knots for paddlers: A fun class about useful knots for human-powered boaters.

  • Trip Planning: Use the knowledge of the tides and currents to navigate our local waterways safely.

  • Nautical Rules of the Road: Stay safe when boating in our busy waterways

  • Nautical Crafts: knitting, sewing for the sailor, decorative and useful knot projects

  • Marine Radio: Next to your life jacket, the marine radio is your most critical piece of safety equipment.
