Monica Schroeder is a professional Scientific Illustrator with over twenty-five years of experience. Her artwork has been licensed by major publishers worldwide and appears in leading medical and scientific textbooks, periodicals, including Scientific American, the Wall Street Journal, Cengage, MacGraw-Hill, Pearson, Macmillan, Scholastic, and digital platforms such as WebMD.
Monica brings a strong educational background to her work. She spent seven years as a Museum Educator at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, three years as Director of Art Programming at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood Settlement House, and has provided kayak safety and environmental training for over a decade with the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse.
In 2018, Monica launched her Biology/Art Education Series, a hands-on program that blends accessible art-making with locally relevant environmental science. Hundreds of participants have taken part in these joyful, community-centered classes, which introduce science concepts through drawing, painting, zine making, collage, book arts, and other beginner-friendly creative explorations.
She has partnered with the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy, NYC Parks Department, Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park, Queens Public Library, the Long Island City Community Boathouse, and the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse to deliver environmental art programming that fosters ecological awareness, community engagement, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
When she’s not teaching or illustrating, she’s likely indoor rock climbing, guiding community kayak trips on NYC’s East River, knitting, or relaxing with her dog.
